These are the Civil War Soldiers I found so far....that is at least spelled Shopher

All the men below are brothers and the sons of Frederick Shopher and Delilah Weaver

As you can see this war truly was a Brother Against Brother War.

Calvin, Jonas and Rufus all fought for Southern Independence and John for some reason fought for the North.  If he had lived I wonder if they could have gotten through that family discrepancy.  I wonder how much they fought over their political views until the war began or before John left and headed for Illinois.  Did Frederick disown John for fighting on the North.   Sounds to me like the makings of another North and South Movie.

This you gotta see.....Could this be Calvin or Jonas?

Jonas was captured and sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois - I found this informaton on the camp and it is listed as being in the top worst:

Camp Douglas, IL (USA) - used as a POW camp from 1862-65.  It was originally designed as a training station, but with the influx of POWS,  it was converted to a prison.  It was designed with a capacity for 6000 men, but during its most crowded they managed to cram in over 12,000. Almost 4500 people died here.

If you'd like to read more about Camp Douglas, the first link has some good information on it and the second link is a short break down of it
