Now Playing...King of The Hill

Told to me by my mom = Funny story about that little
store. I was staying with mom, your dad was armying. One day I needed some "personal
items". I wouldn't even go to
a store & get my own "personal items". I was terribly shy & timid......
Soooooo!.... Glen, how would you like to go to the store for me?..... Get what?..... he
says...... I'll write you a note and you just give it to Mrs. Shipley........ OK he
says........ But what am I going for?........ Uhhh, cookies, I said....... OK..........But
what kind?......... Any kind, but the note will say.............
Glen came back from the store with a bag of cookies. He
had opened them on the way home. I said, Glen, did you give Mrs. Shipley the note?
No, he said I threw away the note, and just picked out a bag of cookies. Glen was about 6.
That actually happened.I still laugh about it sometimes. - Patsy Shopher Srygley
When I was a teen I liked this boy named David
Garcia. He had shoulder length hair and Dad didn't care too much for the long haired
ones. Of course in the 70's they all had long hair. Well David came over one
time to take me out. Dad answered the door and said, "Can I help you?"
David said, "I'm here to take out your daughter." Of course I was
peeking down the hall way just dying wondering what dad was gonna do.......... and Dad
said, "Not my daughter, you're not!" Then dad just closed the door.
David knocked again.....Dad answered again and said, "Can I help
you?"... David said, "Why can't I take out your daughter? Is it
because I have long hair?" Dad said, "Well that's one reason, plus I don't
like your sandals." David said, "Well if that's it sir, you know Jesus had
long hair and wore sandals." Dad said, "Yes son, I know he did and
when you learn to walk on water you can take out my daughter." Then he closed
the door again........Well I just knew I'd never get another date in that town
again......I was so embarassed. But I laugh about it now and think it's
hilarious.........I don't know too many people that could outwit dad, he was fast at
comebacks................Carol Melton Jones
Another about my dad. Once his truck
stalled at a light. When the light turned green again, he was trying to start it
back up. The guy behind him kept honking. Dad finally got out and went to the
honker and said, "I tell you what.....if you go up there and start my truck, I'll sit
here and honk your horn."..... The guy looked at him funny and dad said, "Well
it's obvious my trucks needs to be started and your horn needs to be honked, so we might
as well trade places." - Carol Melton Jones
This one goes back to high school (Crozier Tech, yea, Tech
Hi Wolves) anyway, this guy in my choir asked me out. No guy in school had ever asked me
out. I was extremely shy. Saturday came, I didn't want to go. I told momma when Don comes
to the door, tell him I "forgot about going to the movie" and left. She said,
Patsy, that's not right. I said, I know, but he'll want to put his arm around me &
probably kiss me at the movie. I don't want that. Tell him I went out. Don drove up, I
quickly got into the front closet, closed
the door, (extremely hot in that closet cuz we didn't have air cond.). Momma said, Don, I
guess she forgot, guess she went outside. Sweet little Glen, bless his heart, came running
to the door and said, uh,uh, she's hiding in the closet. I heard him, God punished
me. I said, just a minute Don, I'm almost ready. I was hot & sweaty. But went to the
movie with Don. Saw a movie called "Commanches" at the Majestic Theatre. Yep, he
did put his arm around me. I leaned the other way a little. Needless to say he never asked
me out again. - Patsy Shopher Srygley
